Tasmanian Trade Strategy Photography

In early 2019, Tasmania’s Department of State Growth briefed me on creating and acquiring a suite of high quality photographs that they could use to showcase Tasmanian produce at an international trade event in Singapore that year. The images would feature in their centrepiece Tasmanian Trade Strategy 2019-2025 document, along with being used on large format displays and in presentations. The images would be also be made available for use by Discover Tasmania and the TASMANIAN brand.

Working with renowned Tasmanian photographer Adam Gibson, the brief was to deliver images representative of Tasmania’s prolific and high quality spirits industry, our world-class meats and seafood and advanced manufacturing sector (images not featured). We needed to capture their premium nature with all the richness, depth, grit and honesty that have come to be synonymous with being Tasmanian. I wore many hats in the production of these quality images – from photographic and art direction, production management, prop and product acquisition, talent sourcing, location reconnaissance, transport, access permissions, photographic research and acquisitions, image selection, editing and documentation and of course, being the bridge between producer and client. It was a lot of work and we produced some great images across 7 shoots in 5 days.

Thanks to Adam for your talent, patience and good humour. Thanks also to the following participants that made this shoot possible: Nyrstar, Incat, Huon Valley Meat Co West Hobart Store, Robbins Island Tasmanian Wagyu, Islington Hotel, Poltergeist Gin by Shene Estate Distillery (now Lark Distillery Pontville) and True South Seafoods for live sea urchin and abalone.
